What is for you the best class and what is the worst one for you?

i am a melee class purist, save for a few exections-

  • skeletron prime was hard so i used megashark
  • my 3 other class runs (i stopped at summoner and might do it soon)
  • i mightve used star cannon at least once for WoF
  • mage for destroyer (cloud)

I solely use ranger, its dps more than makes up for its lack of defense. Never had any issues running it, they say if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Ranger enthusiasts unite!

sad how summoners dont do this, probably because the entire terraria community ridicules us for some common misconceptions.

  1. Poop defense: true, but defense is worth nothing if ur good enough to no-hit.
  2. Summoner is for noobs: Contrary to popular belief, summoner actually requires substancial skill to use, as good dodging skills and surrounding awareness (and maybe a bit of calculating) are required to use it. Those randoms who think summoner makes them cool and invincible are wrong by a long shot.
  3. Takes no skill to use: See above.
  4. RNG based early weapons: I will admit this is true, but thats not really our fault. 1.4.1 did help with this slightly by adding a new (much needed) early game summon and armor.
  5. Only good for AFK farming: This is actually one thing I love about the summoner class; if you go AFK or have to leave device, your summons will defend you to the best of their ability until you re-arrive to direct and lead them. They arent wrong, but summoner uses go well beyond afk farming.
  6. Irrational hate for apparent no reason: summoner is just another (cooler) class. Unless you happen to be in DG PvP, summoner is superior in DPS, consistency, and survivability in all areas. It does, however, take skill to learn how to navigate and direct your summons properly, and know which ones are good for which bosses and situations.
  7. Skemor is probably going to turn this into a ‘throwing class superiority’ arguement:

Have you tried or at least seen Melee/Summoner hybrid? With how some of the newer Summoner things (looking at you, speed whips) were designed, it’s legitimately one of the strongest ways to play the game.

i think back then, the main problem with summoner was that it felt like an extra class to add, as it didnt hurt to have an extra sloieme help you beat the M O O N _ L O R D. now, summoner has whips which kinda solve the problem but not really. i think we should also have it so summons are weaker when you use another weapon, like calamity did

Sky fractal? Am i only one here who made it once only just to extend my weapon choice like some years ago (cuz i was so weak that i wasn’t able to kill mechs in normal mode lol)

never really liked clicker, bard, or healer class in general
shaman sucks, but i do sorta like rogue class, its pretty fun to do and its really unique with the mechanics and stuff, Thorium classes just seem strange to me.

Everybody keeps extoling whips, and honestly, they are pretty good. However, I just default to using summoner gear in tandem with some OP weapon such as the Tsunami, Phantasm, Razor Blade Typhoon, etc.

Fair point, but try specifically melee and summoner together. At best, the two can synergize tremendously well together by clever use of game design choices.
