Explanation

This is from the Official Terraria Wiki:

In other words, any Open Space within a house that exceeds 4 Blocks in height or width needs Walls to fill-in the gap and act as a “Block” in order to make it valid.

  • This rule is also applicable in the creation of valid bedding.

Examples

Invalid
There is a 1x6 Area of Open Space at the top.

Valid
There is no Open Space that exceeds 4 Blocks in height or width.

Note

  • You can increase the area of a house without exceeding 4 Blocks in height or width with the type of intersection boxed in green.

Valid
There is no Open Space that exceeds 4 Blocks in height or width.

Invalid
There is a 5x1 Area of Open Space at the top left and a 5x1 Area of Open Space at the bottom.

Valid
There is no Open Space that exceeds 4 Blocks in height or width.
