My favourites in PHM are the Minishark, Demon Scythe, Snapthorn and Enchanted Boomerang. The Minishark is just a really solid and consistent mid-mode upgrade, the Demon Scythe has the fun acceleration mechanic, the Snapthorn is incredibly satisfying to use against EoC in Expert+ and the Enchanted Boomerang appeared in the first Underground Cabin I ever found.
As for the ‘best’ weapons (as in high meta placement) in my opinion, easily Beenades, Flamelash, Vampire Frog Staff and Terragrim. All very strong weapons; Beenades are practically the #1 Wall shredding method, Flamelash has homing, piercing, guiding, high damage and low mana consumption, Frogs are killing machines and Terragrim is somehow a pre-boss weapon.
i dont see the use of most true melee weapons (not all) without a specific setup, and nights edge seems useless unless you want to make the terra blade (which would decimate all these items)
haha i love hellwing bow so much, it is a godsend in ranger playthroughs and shreds all bosses up to Skeletron Prime. Yes sue me, i often use it against destroyer.
Demon scythes is a really solid weapon overall, with its relatively high mana consumption being the one thing I don’t like about it. It can be used to easily speedrun phm with zero effort lmaoo

imp staff, while not my favorite summon in prehardmode (you forgor le froge), is a solid weapon that is half decent.
snapthorn+spinal tap though? that is easily my favorite weapon combo in the entire game besides durendal+dark harvest+blade staff. Normally froge would be part of that combo, but it is not here. Obsidian armor simply ramps the fun up 14 notches xD
flamelash is very nice in early hardmode, very good against woffle and all pmh bosses, and I frequently use it against the twins because I don’t like aiming at spazmatism.
