Is this on mobile? Do you have custom button layouts? If so, theres no way to get back the button positions after the update; you have to manually place it again where it should accurately be. I suggest everytime you make adjustments take a screenshot just incase an update arrives, everybody on mobile experiences it.
If your on PC then I cant answer your question.

For all I know 1.4.3 in PC is compatible with the server, however regarding on Mobile there are a few errors and invalidations of certain weapons and armor but certainly just a minor fix on the servers update.
To answer your question: yes, it does support every version with a few minor errors on 1.4.3, but I must warn you that playing below the 1.4 update has some setbacks as well as allot of outdated bugs. Is this good?

That person with earlier version wonโt be able to pick it up as far as i know.
But i remember earlier zombies map chests giving high version item can crash you (verify?)(outdated?)

My theory is: It wouldnโt give you anything, worst case yes it would crash your pc or phone
