"Tinkerer's Workshop" alternatives

In light of a recent project I have been working on with other creative team members, we have discovered that Tinkerer’s Workshop is non-functional.

The suggestion is simply to add functionality to this crafting table back.

This does NOT have to be directly through the Tinkerer’s Workshop itself:
Rofle suggested “A chest for combining accessories”, ie a chest that would check if the player has the necessary accessories equipped (ie a Sun + Moon Stone), would check for the required points, and would then swap those two accessories for a Celestial Stone after said cost.

But why would you want this?

I personally think a “Tinkerer’s Workshop” chest gives more strategy to prioritizing different items.
In said “secret project” I am working on we would scatter accessories across the map that would eventually overload the players accessory slots UNLESS they take a dangerous detour to a corner of the map to combine said accessories. It is far from any safe spot, and behind one of the zombie spawn locations.
This could also be combined with accessories that can be crafted in different directions such as Frog Leg, or Magma Stone with a class that has access to both melee and bows.

I believe this allows map designers the ability to encourage more exploration of their map in order to discourage trying to find the best spot to camp in 24/7, essentially more difficulty control and reward for players who master said difficulty.
