How many hours-a-day do you dedicate to DG Survival?

When I played DG Survival, I spent 10+ hours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - dropping out of it on Monday. Of course, this isn’t really manageable anymore, and I got pretty sick and tired of playing singleplayer and multiplayer Survival with or without TShock.

I try to play in a style where I have very limited options (like whips only) so I don’t have to play all day.

But I kind of do anyway

Maybe like six hours

I don’t play every reset, usually I take a few weeks’ break in between

Keep in mind I almost always played Summoner when I was active.

Sounds good.

if i could, i would spend my entire day, but i play around 6-10 hours, most likely 6-8 hours, without do any fucking decent progress or farms on my gameplay…

I’d advise against this.

This is the average Survival experience. More than half the game is spent preparing for the next boss and stage of progression, because people keep forestalling progress.

Does Survival still have a modified multiplier for increased mob spawns? or has this been removed?

I’d assume there’s something that increases the normal mob cap, with two dozen players playing in different parts of the world. Not sure if they spawn more though.

The mob cap is permanently 200.

Regarding mob spawns, there are multiple factors to consider:

  • There’s a max amount of mobs that can spawn around the player (I don’t know what this is called, but Quinci used to tell me about it).
  • There’s a spawn multiplier
  • There’s a mob cap of 200

Does that mean mob farms just take up large portions of the mob cap?

Generally, they do.

In fact, back then in the day, a command allowed you to view all mobs (each with an assigned index number) on the server. Using that, you could guess who was farming and where.

For example, if you see an abnormal amount of Underground Hallowed Mobs despite there being little to no players in the Underground Hallowed, you can assume someone is farming in the Underground Hallowed. Then using other commands and tricks, you can locate them, go to them, and piss them off.

I don’t know what this is called, nor is it mentioned on the Official Terraria Wiki; however, I do know it exists.

Quinci, who was a prominent Survival player who had a lot of technical knowledge regarding programming and the inner-workings of Terraria, would tell me about it. When he became a Survival Moderator, he apparently increased the value of this factor.

From my understanding, here’s how this factor works:
Let’s say even though there is a high spawn rate, a maximum of 30 mobs can spawn around you. If you increase magnitude the aforementioned factor, the maximum may increase to 40. If you decrease magnitude of this factor, perhaps the maximum will decrease to 20.
