As a general pog in terraria, my favorite class is easily summoner, and has been for about 3 years (before that, it was mage. I liked melee in 1.1 and early 1.2). As I was doing my first ever Summoner Malice/Death/Eternity Mode playthrough, (lol on my friends laptop he let me borrow) the thought hit me that summoner was underrated. Therefore, to prove summoner was the best class, i needed to make a PvP loadout for it- and I ran into a problem. Most of the primary whip and summon sets (shinobi infiltrator’s, monk’s, valhalla knight’s) are all nerfed massively to the point where valhalla knight’s is completely useless, shinobi infiltrator is extremely weak, and I’m just not going to talk about monk’s. I have a good meta (Unreal Dark Harvest, Mythical Rainbow Crystal Staff, Mythical Tempest Staff), but I am currently clueless on any good whip hybrids.
By the way, I have a weird thing about having Mythical on my summon staffs. I’ve been this way since 1.2, so dont ask.

In PVP minions won’t directly target players.

well ofc, but tempests deal contact damage, and they are actually a pretty decent antirush due to their movement behavior, additionally the clump together around you, so someone trying to say tblade you would get a faceful of tempests, even if they only do about 60 damage each.

For Whip hybrids… well, as a basic… er, basis, you need to boost the whips a lot for them to be effective. Try adding on some amount of melee speed alongside summon damage on your armor and accessories.

Right now, ive decided on Monk’s Bushy Brow, Gi, and Stardust Leggings for whip combos. I’ve found that Shinobi Infiltrator’s Torso does very little damage-wise, but for some reason I can’t do much over 80 damage to anything. Maybe focus on melee speed…?

You likely won’t, given that Dark Harvest is capped at 82 damage.
