Brooo there is no the most op magic weapon for early and mid hardmode
cool whip bad
firecracker good :]
sanguine staff awesome against mechs, QS, EoL, and Duke Fishron.
golden shower is a good old favorite, love it.
fiery rocks go brrrrrrrrr
Cool Whip is utterly worthless. Screw Cool Whip. Firecracker? Now thereās a whip. Works incredibly well with high-base damage staffs, such as our beloved Sanguine Staff. Sanguine is really hard to get, but your efforts pay off in the end with one of the strongest early-HM staffs. It has insanely high knockback, good targeting, stays nearby to defend you at all times: itās the ideal staff.
And then all these attributes are reflected once more in the Blade Staff. The Blade Staff doesnāt synergise with Firecracker quite as well, but instead resonates more strongly with whip stacking and Durendal. Snapthorn + Durendal + Leather Whip turns the Blade Staff into a DPS monster that shreds everything on sight with its super-high super-consistent attacks.
Sky Fracture is overrated. Slow projectiles combined with weird targeting (they shoot directly at your cursorās position) make for a weapon that most people just get because, you know, itās easy to! Except there is another optionā¦
Enter Poison Staff. Long forgotten due to how sucky it was in 1.3, this magical venomous shotgun now has all its projectiles hitting properly, making for a much stronger attack. It isnāt meta or anything, but its damage is excellent and it even has a direct upgrade which comes shortly after. Thanks to its piercing qualities, itās not only effective against single targets like the Twins, but also multiple like Prime and the Destroyer. Solid staff, very nice.
Canāt forget the trusty Golden Shower. Ichor application made easy. Always chilling in slot 2, waiting to be pulled out. Itās just a good support. As for the other tomes, Crystal Storm has recently been buffed to the point of viability. Nobody wants to try it out because it was disappointing before, but itās actually got the DPS to be usable now, despite eating your mana in a matter of seconds.
Now onto what I donāt see on this list. Spirit Flame: the ultimate single-target magic weapon. It has homing, incredibly high damage and since literally every early HM boss chases you down its initially stationary projectiles basically donāt matter. Then we have the Nimbus Rod, which just supplements your DPS. There is no downside to putting up those clouds. Free damage is good damage. Always use Nimbus Rod. Then thereās Queen Spider Staff: never has there been a more underrated weapon in the history of Terraria. QSS dishes out big damage quite consistently with its speedy little spiders, and has previously outdpsed the third-tier Ballista Sentry which you can only obtain from a post-Golem event. Itās just that good. The best part is that in OOA you can place several Queen Spiders before even starting the event and then add Ballistas or Flamebursts (whichever you prefer) alongside them.
ah yes, the Onyx Blaster 2.0 with insane crowd controll, homing, high-damage attacks that shred all bosses up to Lunatic. Love that thing with all my heart, mind, and soul.
Itās fourth on my favorite weapons in total⦠itās
Blade staff
Durendal
Sanguine Staff
Spirit Flame
My secret in terraria is my excessive use of Queen Spider Staff, itās nice to know somebody else loves it almost as much as I do.
I just recalled that Life Drain is, in fact, a weapon that exists: a testament to just how forgettable it sadly is. Itās a really cool concept and it crushes crowds, but its single-target damage is just so horrid, and even against crowds it falls off basically the instant you leave the Purity due to a combination of high mana consumption and enemies not grouping up nicely for you to suck the souls from. If only its damage increased with less targets; thatād make it more viable. As it stands, itās basically the second, maybe third (clinger staff may be bad but itās free damage ig?) weakest Biome Mimic weapon.
Yeah, itās incredibly underrated. Or Ballistae are incredibly overrated. I initially learned how good QSS was from the TCFās In-Depth Hardmode Weapon Tier List (In-depth Hardmode weapon tier list | Terraria Community Forums) and Iāve loved it ever since.
not to me⦠that thing has long since been cast out from my hotbar.
I agree, it should scale with less targets. Unfortunately, the healing bonus is hardly anything compared to palladium armor and much better weapons. Kinda sad, but I have found it works decently well with orichalcum armor.
If thereās one thing Life Drain works really well with, itās Titanium Armour. Zap a crowd of semi-tanky statue-summoned enemies and boom, fully regenerated shards every tick of damage.
Also, this is unconfirmed, but I think Life Drain (the regen buff, not the dot debuff or the item) scales its regeneration based on the number of enemies being hit. This could possibly lead to it out-regenning Rapid Healing, or I could be mistaken.
Hard to test.
uhm
am going summoner playthru with my friends rn
cool whip > firecracker
but not such a big update
incorrect
kidding, but actually why do you think that
Firecracker makes the next minion attack do 3x damage every time it hits, whereas Cool Whip spawns a slow-moving snowflake projectile that does 10 damage per hit. Cool Whip may have a minor range advantage and like 10 more base damage, but thatās nothing compared to the average like 60-80 more damage from your next minion attack after every Firecracker hit.
Firecracker scales even better the more damage your minion does, granting well over a hundred damage per hit in the āblazing explosionā effect with a particularly glass-cannony build. Itās just obscenely powerful. Meanwhile, Cool Whip literally has no synergy with minions; all it does is do summon damage, it is the only whip in the game where using it with minions is no stronger than the sum of its parts. No matter the situation, Cool Whip just falls severely behind in DPS; the only way to make it better than FC is by doing a whip-only run. Itās harder to get and yet itās a much crappier weapon overall.
Iāve found that cool whip deals more damage with only whips, but itās called āsummonerā for a reasonā¦
