Nerf Adamantite Breastplate

[What is the actual item/mechanic/thing being targeted?]
Adamantite Breastplate

[What would you like specifically changed about it?]
Reduce its defense a little by 1-2 defense, and its damage stats by 1-2%

[Why do you feel that this change is needed?]
The Adamantite Breastplate has too much defense and can outclass turtle scale mail in damage when replacing two menacing accessories with warding, whilst keeping the same defense.

[Anything else you would like to note]

We dont want tankier armor sets to be as viable as non-tank sets, Turtle Scale Mail is kept inefficient for this purpose.

The thing is adamantite breastplate is already quite tanky, and overshadows lower defense breastplates in defense and even offense, while also overshadowing turtle armor if using +2 warding accesories in damage making it stronger than most. Furthermore it also seems to overshadow chlorophyte breastplate in defense by 4 + melee by 1/2% whilst barely sacrificing in magic and ranged damage 3% to be exact (+3 melee) so even if chloro plate had +1 warding, it would be worse then the adamantite in damage across the board

Idk chloro plate is already tanky enough given it has almost if not identical stats to crimson plate in the damage department.

I guess it really just depends on what exactly you are going for build wise but I can see how it might be a bit too tanky or feel hard to counter for some people in certain aspects.

Crimson scalemail has only 23 defense. It is not a viable armor piece for tank gameplay.
Chloro breastplate has 30 defense. You can argue it has 3% more magic and ranged damage than the adamantite plate.

Here are the stats for the adamantite plate:

However watch what happens when you put warding on chlrophyte plate:

Sacrificing menacing for warding causes the chlorophyte plate to fall off in every stat including ranged and magic damage, except for defense. Edit: minion damage would be -4% with this change

I was referring to it having crimson’s stats with better defense than crimson. I was also comparing it with adamantine in all around stats over its ability to tank.

This is not a great way to weigh how viable armor is.
Armors numeric values do not always add up equally because not all damage types are equally valuable for all players.

Example being, I hate Frost Armor, I’ve never liked it. I would always rather play pure ranger, pure melee, or any other hybrid kit.
The only reason I would ever want Frost Armor is to play melee with sniper damage, so the typical Frost Armor playstyle with both never worked well for me.
All this being said Frost Armor was still statistically incredible.

Similarly, melee lacks any consistent poke options, instead mostly having spammy “flood the arena” weapons like bananarang and stylish scissors, alongside close quarters engagement tools in spades.
The tradeoff is that Tipsy gives you an additional 10% melee damage and speed at the cost of 4 defense, meaning most melee tools can POTENTIALLY scale harder than your ranged/magic tools.

Inversely this means that ranger and magic damage can be FAR more dangerous and important due to the consistency of weapons like Heat Ray and Sniper Rifle.

It is for these reasons that we have some armor with MORE melee damage than ranger/magic (ie admanatite breastplate, and shadow breastplate), and some armor with LESS melee damage than ranger/magic (ie hallowed mask and chlorophyte plate mail).

It should additionally be noted that generally speaking, warding and menacing equal out to LOOSELY the same values, and only when pushed further in extremes does it turn into mathematical improvements, or when paired with specific weapon options with high/low min/max damage.

I do not personally buy these arguments that adamantite breasplate is too overtuned, gaining 3% ranger and magic damage in exchange for 3% melee damage and 4 defense may not always be the best tradeoff, but it’s very reasonable to create a kit that relies MOSTLY on magic/ranger, but still gets usage out of say Combat Wrench and Starlight or similar close quarters tools, and therefore you want to use armors that make those trades.

I think at ABSOLUTE MOST, I could justify nerfing adamantite breastplate by a defense point, maybe two.

A comment,
Maybe a very minor nerf to the defense could make more sense, 1-2 defense.
This would allow the chlorophyte breastplate with 30 defense to gain more relevance and probably allow me to try to use that armor when adamantite breastplate has a little less defense, as my pvp loadout currently relies on the adamantite breastplate but the large amounts of defense keeps me from trying other breastplates.
In some other argument, putting warding on a chlrophyte plate mail piece is kinda dumb as it is meant to be offensive/somewhat defensive mixed for ranged and magic.
The minor melee advantage of adamantite kinda helps but it makes adamantite breastplate strong for mixed armor use cases.
Maybe there is a way to make chlorophyte breastplate slightly more relevant like more magic or range damage, or one more defense maybe
I am unsure of how else we can balance an adamantite armor piece other than making it 32/33 defense, to give chlorophyte armor more magic and ranged relevance

I am going to mark this suggestion as accepted and close it for now given the 1 defense reduction given to the chestplate recently.
It is still technically “not pushed” but I don’t see a reason to undo that change after thinking about it more.
