I haven't really been here that much time compared to others (Joined around january 2021 iirc?)
What is a fact tho, Is that a lot of people from around my era, Left and are no longer hanging around here in general, or just checking every blue moon
And that is the point that i want to touch
What does keep you at here in general?
As for some of the people i know, at this point defo’ is not for the Terraria server itself, Myself included, as most of the time actually interact on the discord and (Nowdays mostly lurk) the forum
Like, I don’t get in too often on the server, And not because of responsabilities (Partially), As what keeps me in is just in general helping about stuff in general, And 2 personal projects related to DG that (very likelly) will be that last things and no, I probably won’t finish Unwanted visitor nor Little big garden i’ll do before leaving on a more formal sense (Aside of hanging around with the few friends i made in here that i still have way to contact them every now and then, and once the 14 months i promised as a moderator passes)
Not because im done with Terraria (Modded Terraria can go to hell lol), But just feels depressive to some point seeing this place getting less users traffic in general due to several factors that are not relevant here,
What im trying to say its that the place gives kenopsy, Despite still enjoying playing zombies (even if im alone) and (Sometimes) pvp
In a nutshell, I would like to know what keeps you making visit DG, Even if its just the forums/Discord or even the firepit that is PvPLongue
Gotta be honest, mostly just boredom.
But there’s also this cool project thingamajig i’m working on in the background (:
(It’s bit-crushed to the ground so good luck even understanding what it is)
Prolly because I like the nostalgia it gives me whenever i visit the forum or dc? Back when it was pandemic, my only solace is terraria, DG, and genshin tbh. I always find time to play even when I’m stumped with school backlogs then. Now, that I’m working, with leisure time I have, I enjoy lurking around and play occassional zombies and survival at times.
Being honest I’ve only been sticking around to help satiate my loneliness.
Truly is sad to see this place slowly die, but that’s just how most things end up.
For me, it’s community and the simple beauty there is in Terraria that Dark Gaming, to me at least, taps into really well.
On “simple beauty”: There’s nothing wrong with more custom experiences that do a lot more, it’s where I spend a lot of my Minecraft playtime nowadays, but I like all the stuff that Terraria already has at base. Dark Gaming just adds on to them a bit to change up what’s there, nothing too drastic but still neat twists and additions compared to vanilla. Granted, some of those limitations still come from lack of developer time and Terraria netcode being horrific to work with, but there’s still a lot that’s already been done on here without changing too much about the core of the game.
Community’s also part of it for me, even when my time in general has been limited. People have come and gone from Dark Gaming’s communities as a whole (Discord, the forums, etc.), but there’s many things a lot of us share that bring us together even outside of just Terraria related stuff, and I’ve made a good handful of friends just from that. Despite how old it is, the community’s still been relatively small and tight knit, and I appreciate that given the scale of what Dark Gaming does for the multiplayer experience: mostly the same as what’s already there with some custom stuff sprinkled in, but it still feels very close to Terraria.
Im new to the community and im passing time while there’s no school and I don’t get to be busy at the moment im just playing for the fun of it and having to interact with people is cool but I can’t seem to have friends on forums xD I’ll still try but overall dark gaming is js a fun server that people will one day be tired of and return for the nostalgia nobody sticks forever for a game but people will surely return even for a little time
To be honest I only visit the forums and look at the discord nowadays like the lurker I am. I just get interested when something updates. I am surprised that I still kept my trust level too (for now)
To be fair this place was nostalgic but now I’m stuck reviewing flags for a forum about an educational software called gimkit. Someday I will get out of that loop and focus more on other things
I rarely enter the terraria server nowadays but the forums and stuff are reminding me that 2022 and 2023 were way better times than now.
