That certainly was a while ago.
Back then, mobile players could join PvP but would not be able to inflict any damage.

I played quite a bit on Eternia and Terraria One, mostly just improving my building skills and chatting with whoever was around, but eventually I was fresh out of ideas for things to construct. The communities began to grow stale, and that “builder’s block” never went away. So I went onto the Terraria Servers site, where I had originally discovered the aforementioned servers, and looked up more mobile-compatible communities. It was then that I found DG, and soon after joining began enjoying the Zombies gamemode—shortly after, I registered and then set up a trading account after hearing from a friend that it would eventually grant me the ability to build there with persistent voting. Today, I’m not quite as active on DG as I was before, however I still think it a highly enjoyable experience. Perhaps sometime I’ll start playing Zombies again.
With build servers, I find that the “sense of community” is often the biggest appeal. Personally, I’ve never been particularly enticed by this.
for me, i found it when my brother showed me it some time like late 2016 or early '17. i remember playing on the mirror… or did it just look like the old items section? idk
i also remember forgetting the name and address of the server and he told me the name, but he didn’t remember the address. so i looked it up on the server list and got the ip, and then the time where i got banned in jan 2020 happened. lol
I found about Dark Gaming from a video @MrSandwich posted in a discord server I was talking to a very long time ago and since then I was going to the server for free items, then after like 2 years I decided to actually play on the server and then met @Pixelbitie in zombies who helped me understand the gamemode, then later on found more people
