How does Patented Cupid’s name appear orange when my cursor is hovered over it?
As seen in the screenshot, he is not even a Member.

They are on a mediumcore character. Mediumcore characters normally have orange names, just like hardcore characters where they have red names.

I never knew this nor do I know any article on the Official Terraria Wiki about this.

Their character difficulty by name color shows up as well in vanilla chat; orange for Mediumcore, red for Hardcore. If you want video examples, CrabBar had done a few videos on THC, and you can observe the red Hardcore text/names there. And from Terracorps (Khaios’ series/event(?) that he made as the effective Terraria equivalent to Hermitcraft), where players play with Mediumcore characters, the orange text can be observed.
