The Enchanted duo. Terragrim is an absolute DPS monster and all you need to do is run a relatively tanky setup (jungle armour, anyone?) and Enchanted Sword has rather high base damage plus an easy-to-hit ranged attack.
If we’re getting cheesy, however, then Sunfury all the way. Getting a key off a Pot or a lucky Wooden Chest in the Dungeon, then getting a Shadow Key out of the chest opened is the best thing that can possibly happen in a playthrough. Flails have incredibly high damage per hit (thanks, 1.4!) and you can hit with them pretty often if you’re closer to the enemy, so Sunfury and BoH are both really solid, if hard to hit with on Expert+ EoC.
Starfury is pretty sucky because not only is its ranged projectile hard to hit with, it also can’t make it through platforms. So unless you have a stair arena lying around, you’ll have to stay on the top platforms (and have perfect aim) to hit. To add insult to injury, its base damage is even lower than that of the Enchanted Sword.
While Night’s Edge is okay, I’ve always found its component swords utterly worthless, Blade of Grass and Light’s Bane especially. True melee weapons just tend to fall behind their semi-ranged counterparts. Luckily, that’s at least partially not the case for Falcon Blade, because if you persevere long enough to get it (or if you’re addicted to fishing like me) you actually get a really good weapon out of the deal. It can blend up enemies pretty well with a tank build.
Swordfish, like most spears, is practically unusable against bosses. Their whole thing is having big pierce, so when up against a single target their damage is kind of eh. Stick with other weaps and you’ll get much farther while taking much less damage.
As much as boomerangs hold a special place in my heart, Thorn Chakram is just not a great weapon. It’s slow, rather cumbersome and its gimmick (bouncing off stuff) isn’t useful against bosses.
Amazon is pretty strong. It stays out a while, and as long as you’re playing on a screen large enough that you can control a yoyo properly, it’s solid damage from a distance. Make sure to craft a String of some sort (or several strings for glorious pre-Goblin rerolling) to up said distance though.
