1 - Tech Performance Test - Part 1

i had no trouble running the 60 fps one, but the 120 fps one occasionally dropped frames while walking or pouring liquids (maybe because my laptop isnt that great)
the refresh rate of my screen is 144

my spec

Processor Intel(R) Core™ i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.20 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.9 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

im also windows 11 idk if thats important

i also found a way to make invisible blocks (or you knew already??/jaa)

The area loaded in is limited right now due to not yet loading chunks as you move

Do you have screenshot of output in powershell?

No I didn’t know about that, thanks for showing

yesd
walking causes a subtle fps drop (its still noticeable), but pouring a lot of water causes a big fps drop (this only happens when the water is falling, not when its still)

when walking

i was walking on this

when pouring vwater

(i created an ocean on the left side)

What you said before about the 60fps one, does that one lag with water?

yes

i just tested it now but walking is normal

the fps becomes normal when i reach the bottom

(w well i didnt test the water in the 60 one so i gues its not perfectly fine)

Not sure yet but it seems like updating the material layer (water / sand etc) is what’s slowing you down (engine targets 8.33ms, yours is taking 22ms+) and you didn’t mention specifics on how much water you can add before it starts lagging.

The first bit I do here:

Does that immediately cause lag for you? I would imagine based on your screenshot that what I do after the first bit does.

For reference this is what I get from:

Which right now is the more extreme scenario and not yet optimized, but the first half of the video I showed is more normal and is expected to not cause performance issues.

i copied how you did it in the vid and here my result

Ok that is useful, I will wait until I setup benchmarks before changing anything since the benchmarks will use the same scenario and I can directly tell how it compares.
