Types of survival players

What type of player was I?

When I played Survival, I usually did this:

  • Usually played as Summoner
  • Built farms every reset
  • Opted to do Duke Fishron in the Pre-Mech stage
  • Rushed the game to defeat ML on Sunday or earlier
  • Rushed to loot the world
  • /tp to players underground (Some players really hate this)
  • Fished a lot and did Angler quests nearly everyday
  • Was super active for long periods of time from Friday to Sunday
  • Would consistently leave Survival by Sunday or Monday
  • Hoarded all kinds of loot for trading
  • Traded with players a lot but rarely gives stuff for free (unless I wanted to defeat a boss by distributing good gear)
  • Sometimes summoned events/bosses without telling anyone on the server
  • Rarely interacted with other players
  • Never begged
  • Got a lot of stuff by myself
  • Only interacted with players when it comes to events/bosses
  • Dismissed “useless” items like the Terraspark/Ankh Shield
  • Gathered potion ingredients and made potions

How to play survival?

It’s like vanilla.
However, you have TShock and other people to deal with.

You get stuff to destroy others.

The “get stuff” is the part I have the problem with

Really? I usually struggle with the “destroy others” part.

???

???
how even lol

all three resets I played were in hardmode by sunday at most

Well, Master Mode is harder than Expert Mode. I’ve only played a few resets of Master Mode, because I was more active in 1.3 than 1.4 now.

I guess that makes sense… but still, that seems pretty impossible to beat the game with boss scaling in two days

What if… there’s no boss scaling because you are the only one online at 3 A.M.

Back then, you could ask players to leave Survival to lessen boss HP.

Only sometimes.

Back then, we had more tricks up our sleeves.
We could use /tpnpc, /buff, and /heal.

  • /buff was banned from Survival early in 2019, because players consistently abused mount buffs
  • /tpnpc was removed recently in the first third of 2020.
  • In the past, /heal had no cooldown. For most of 2019, it had a cooldown of 60 seconds, and near the end of 2019 and in the beginning of 2020, its cooldown became 300 seconds. When /heal was removed around the time /tpnpc was removed.

Besides this, a few players (including me) abused many exploits including dupes and item transfers.

Quinci, who was an admin on the server but left, used to be a very prominent Survival player. At his peak, he beat ML in less than a day after the reset utilizing all these tricks - I think it took him about 6 hours.

At my best, I beat ML on a late Saturday, and usually beat ML mid-Sunday.

/tpnpc still works, I think it was re-added

/tpnpc allowed you to teleport to any NPC on the map. For most of 2020, it was removed from Survival. Recently, it was added back into Survival in 2021, but is now nerfed - you can now only use it to teleport to friendly NPCs.

Huh, could you do it to any enemy? How would that work, since all of them have unique IDs? Or could you just do /tpnpc queen bee or something?

Here are some example uses:

  • /tpnpc target dummy (people used target dummies as checkpoints back then)
  • /tpnpc worm
  • /tpnpc hornet
  • /tpnpc the destroyer

How would it know which hornet or enemy to teleport to though?

Each NPC has an ID from 0-200 assigned to it. You teleport to the one with the lowest assigned ID if there are multiple with the same name.

Interesting, I can see how that could be used for exploits
