It’s once again that time of the year where the live service game Destiny 2 gets a major expansion. The Destiny franchise is something that I grew up with over said franchise’s lifespan (over 7 years by now. The games themselves are quite resilient; they’ve stuck around through horrible times (low community morale, people being fed up with the state of the franchise at times) and they’ve all surged back in popularity multiple times. Since the last big expansion, Beyond Light in November of 2020, the start of the great times we’ve been seeing recently took a bit to start up, but since then the regularly added content season over season has been getting better and better, both by gameplay as well as by keeping the story true to “more Destiny”. The new expansion, The Witch Queen, has a lot going for it; the buildup from the last season, the quality of the content over the last year, everything Bungie’s been building up hype for with advancements in core gameplay (weapon crafting, the first of the core Light subclasses getting moved to the modular buildcrafting system), and the result of all of that is the Destiny community absolutely buzzing with excitement. I haven’t played or watched anything significant yet regarding the expansion, but if it’s everything that Bungie’s been bringing talk for, this could be the start of some of the best times Destiny’s ever been in.
