there’s no way to do it by typing stuff in chat, people get chat colors from using the DTP website

Let me clarify Madofado’s previous comment:
Virtually every multiplayer server supports color tags; however, the Dark Gaming server explicitly prevents players from using color tags – though every other type of tag is usable. This incentives players to make an account on the server’s website in order to use the collectable pre-made tags that are automatically pre-formatted when you type in the server’s chat.
In single-player, or player-hosted servers, color tags don’t work in the chat; however, they are supported by announcement signs and storage labels.
