What does the "u=(user)" at the end of a link copied on the forums mean?

This isn’t an issue, more of a question…

This is a link to popstarfreas’ post on how the current Rep Mode functions. The thing is, though, I noticed that, when it was copied using the dedicated link button (since I’m using the the Chrome “”““app””“”), “u=tru3thful” was added to the end. What does this mean?

I’d assume the u=tru3thful is referring to the user(u=) who made(shared a link, or the way you copied it from the dedicated link button) the link. In other words, it mostly seems to be there to tell others who the original person sharing that link is, for whatever reason that might be.

I usually just yeet it when I copy links

I do as well, but I was wondering if it actually did anything… such as, maybe, the thing that grants progress for the Promoter badge and its higher tiers.

Based on what is discussed here, <?u=user> is a query string used to gain certain achievements - probably the ones regarding Sharing.
