A sound is defined by the people who hear it. What your talking about is a sound wave. So technically, it doesn’t make a sound.

Can you know the true nature of something if you can only perceive it by observation?

Yeah but what if an animal or bug or something hears it, or what if sound isnt defined by the people who hear it but im too lazy to check it?

Allow me to answer this in the most Alphys type of way:
It does produce sound but because no one is nearby to perceive the sound wave created by the tree, we can simply say it didn’t make a sound. And, yes, it does produce sound because it collides with more air molecules, making the sound wave we hear. Yes, we may not have been nearby to hear it, it DID create an audible sound, just no one was around to hear it.
