This plugin allows you to see who’s online. Phase and Discord have a feature where you can view who’s online, and I don’t know why you can’t either.

Yes, if there is a possibility to hide that status. Imagine if someone spams you when you are online. So you could hide that and no one would spam you when being online

whos_online_display_min_trust_level: the minimum trust level that this plugin is displayed to. Defaults to 0

If allowed, make the minimum trust level 2 because most users on the forum are basic users.
It is the closest you can get to being hidden.
